DIANE DOUGLAS
Republican Candidate for Arizona House of Representatives Legislative District 9
My Biography

I earned an Associate degree in Business from Somerset County College and a B.S. in Marketing from Rutgers University, both in NJ.  I have spent my professional life in accounting.  My last position was as a financial analyst for the International Accounting Dept of a Fortune 500 company.  Since moving to AZ, I have studied the art of stained glass.  I teach at the Stained Glass Shop in Glendale and have taught classes for Peoria Unified School District Community Education program.

As a second term member of the Peoria Unified School District Governing Board, elected in 2004 and re-elected 2008, I have a proven track record of fiscal responsibility and accountability.  I worked to bring a “call to the public” to the board agenda so that our community can now freely petition their elected officials during board meetings.   With the help of two new board members elected in 2006 we closed high school campuses during lunchtime making our campuses safer for our students; the streets around our campuses safer for our community and limiting the liability risk to our district i.e. the taxpayers.  We investigated and stopped unauthorized retirement payments being made to a former superintendent.  I worked persistently for 3 years to bring our Employee Benefit Trust under the umbrella of Valley Schools Insurance Trust of which PUSD was a founding member over twenty years ago.  This move is estimated to save the taxpayers nearly $2 million this year on the cost of employee benefits while providing the same level of benefits to our employees.
